Growing through transitions and finding balance

I joined the VAT Department at Grant Thornton Cyprus in 2019, and today I am a VAT Assistant Manager. Over the years, my life has changed in many ways, both personally and professionally. These experiences have taught me the importance of balance, patience, and finding harmony in the middle of change.
I joined the VAT Department at Grant Thornton Cyprus in 2019, and today I am a VAT Assistant Manager. Over the years, my life has changed in many ways, both personally and professionally. These experiences have taught me the importance of balance, patience, and finding harmony in the middle of change.
In 2021, I moved from the Nicosia office to the Limassol office for personal reasons. It was a smooth transition, but like any change, it came with its own challenges. Settling into a new city took time, yet I quickly grew to appreciate Limassol.
Working remotely with my original team allowed me to maintain continuity, while being in a new office helped me meet colleagues from other departments and build new relationships. I felt welcomed from the very beginning, and that made the transition much easier.
Then, in 2023, I became a mother. Motherhood is beautiful and at the same time challenging. It has changed the way I see things and helped me appreciate balance and priorities in a deeper way.
Becoming a parent shifted everything. My free time became limited, and time management became essential. Motherhood has made me more patient, organised, and adaptable. It has also given me a stronger sense of purpose, and that motivates me to make the most of my time, both at work and at home.
Balancing motherhood with a growing career can be demanding, but I have learned to manage it by staying organised and intentional. I prioritise tasks, focus during work hours, and make sure to dedicate quality time to my family.
Parenthood teaches you to adapt quickly and handle the unexpected. For me, harmony is not about perfection. It is about finding a rhythm that works and appreciating each moment for what it is.
“Harmony is not about perfection. It is about finding a rhythm that works and being fully present in each moment.”
My team was incredibly supportive throughout my move to Limassol. They encouraged me, stayed positive, and helped me take advantage of the new opportunities that came from connecting with new colleagues.
Grant Thornton has also been very supportive through my journey as a new mother. The flexibility in my working hours has made a significant difference. I have the freedom to leave briefly when I need to pick up my baby from nursery, and people understand the reality of sleepless nights or having to stay home when my son is unwell.
Being in an environment that respects your personal life makes everything easier.
For me, flexibility means managing both work and family without added stress. It means being trusted to handle responsibilities, and being supported when unexpected situations arise. This approach helps me stay productive at work while also being present for my family.
My advice to colleagues going through similar transitions is to embrace the change, stay organised, and prioritise what matters most. Do not hesitate to ask for support. It exists, and using it wisely can help you maintain balance, stay focused, and continue growing both personally and professionally.
Work-life harmony as it should be means giving your best to your professional and personal life without feeling that one takes something away from the other.
It is not about achieving the perfect balance every day, but about finding a sustainable rhythm that allows you to grow, contribute, and enjoy both sides of your life. For me, that is what work-life harmony truly means.
