From Cyprus to Dublin and back, Christina’s journey is one of growth, confidence, and opportunity. Her story shows how support, collaboration, and trust help people thrive at Grant Thornton Cyprus.

Starting out

When I joined Grant Thornton Cyprus in November 2020, I had just completed my MSc in Data Science and was stepping into my first full-time role in a corporate environment. I started as an Associate Consultant in the Risk Advisory – FSA team, eager to learn, explore new areas, and take on responsibilities that would push me outside my comfort zone.

Those early days were full of learning curves. Every project brought something new, not just in terms of technical knowledge, but in developing the confidence to express my ideas, ask questions, and find my own way of contributing to the team.

A new experience abroad

A few years later, I had the chance to go on a four-month secondment at Grant Thornton Ireland in Dublin, joining their Quantitative Risk team. Working in a new office and culture was something I had always wanted to experience, and it turned out to be one of the most valuable chapters of my career so far.

My time abroad broadened my understanding of how large, international teams operate. Bringing that experience back to Cyprus gave me the chance to contribute new ideas and strengthen what was already a strong and dynamic team.

Bringing global lessons home

Today, I’m an Assistant Manager, working on projects that often cross borders, collaborating with teams in Ireland, the UK, and beyond. I recently had the chance to take part in an on-site inspection with the European Central Bank in Milan, which was both challenging and rewarding.

Being part of an international network like Grant Thornton truly opens doors. Our department is proof that a team in Cyprus can contribute to projects across Europe and make an impact on a global scale.

“I have been lucky to work with people who believed in me even when I doubted myself. To me, that has made all the difference.”

Personal growth and confidence

Looking back, what surprises me most is how much I have grown personally, not just professionally. I have learned to communicate more clearly, approach challenges with confidence, and trust myself more than I did when I first started.

I have also been fortunate to work with people who believed in me even when I doubted myself - and that has made all the difference.

What “as it should be” means to me

For me, a career as it should be is about balance between challenge and support, ambition and encouragement. It is about being part of a team that trusts you to take on new experiences but also gives you the space to do so.

At Grant Thornton, I have always felt that growth is a shared effort. You are given space to learn, people who guide you when you need it, and opportunities that stretch you in the best way possible. That is what as it should be means to me: a career that helps you become the best version of yourself, both professionally and personally.
