Meetings are where ideas are exchanged and decisions are made, yet documenting them accurately can be challenging in Cyprus, where many discussions take place in the Cypriot Greek dialect. Most speech recognition tools are trained on standard Greek and often struggle to correctly interpret the vocabulary and pronunciation used in everyday Cypriot speech.
As a result, automatically transcribing such meetings can produce significant errors, requiring professionals to manually review recordings and reconstruct key discussion points. This process is time consuming and increases the risk that important decisions or action items are not captured clearly.
To address this challenge, the AI & Data Lab at Grant Thornton Cyprus developed AI Listener, an intelligent solution designed to accurately transcribe meetings conducted in the Cypriot Greek dialect and transform conversations into structured and actionable meeting minutes.
The development of AI Listener was supported by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) under the RESTART Programmes for Research, Technological Development and Innovation, which aim to strengthen innovation and digital transformation in Cyprus.
